Plan not Plant...Yet!

These last few sunny weekends have brought in many customers so ready to buy trees and shrubs. I still have my overstock buried in my straw and mulch fort. They are happy in there and after checking them yesterday, there are several where the buds are swelling. It would really be unethical for me to sell and say sure, go plant these. First, I don't know if any have tried to dig a hole, well go try and let me know how that goes. Sounds like a great social media video. The soil is cold, cold, cold. Even though the sun is out and the snow is melting, soil temperature has to warm up to encourage root growth. Please learn from my past mistakes. I am as stubborn as anyone and I have tried to cheat the Wyoming springs every year to devastating results. What I encourage each of you is to spend some time planning what you want to plant. Next month after Easter to Memorial Day is when you can start to plant. Think big to small, trees and shrubs you can plant the soonest, then perennials, then annuals. If you just have too much spring fever, come in and see us. The greenhouse is warm and we are busy planting.
The next question I want to address is the concern from many customers about the browning needles of evergreens. This is winterburn from our lovely extreme change in temperatures and windchill. If you feel on the branches and the limbs are still flexible, and the needles stay on, they are not dead. I encourage you to start watering once this snow melts, and apply an evergreen acid formula. I have seen this over several years, and once you see new growth, they will green up.
New at the greenhouse: potatoes & onion sets are in! Next week my Easter Lilies, Hydrangeas, & flowering bulbs are coming in. Please put in your order if you are wanting some for Easter. Kat has been busy arranging gorgeous centerpieces from our floral cooler. After two years of limited Easter celebrations, it is an exciting time.
Thank you for all your support! See you soon!
